MILL IDOL 2009

THE MILL INN – SAXLINGHAM THORPE

 

Heat 1

 

The Mill Inn hosted the first heat of Mill Idol 2009 on 16th September and we were greeted by a large audience once again which was fantastic plus a six strong entry for the competition. The competition had some entries from the Norwich Idol competition who joined together with the regulars to make a large heat.

 

The list below is the order in which they sung and which songs they performed:

 

Michelle – I Will Always Love You – Whitnet Houston

Freya – The Power Of Love – Celine Dion

Debbie – The Power Of Love – Kate Bush

Chelsea – What Makes A Man - Westlife

Charlie – Dance With My Father – Luther Vandross

Niki – Heaven – DJ Sammy (Yanou’s Candlelight Mix)

 

The judges on the night were Pat, Michael and Gary and on the night they were judging on the usual categories – Presentation, Vocal Talent, and Star Quality/Entertainment Factor.

 

After all of the contestants had the performed, the judges added their scores and Niki, Charlie and Michelle were given the nod as the top three who were going though to the final.

Heat 2

 

The Mill Idol competition returned for the second heat on Wednesday 23rd September and although their was a large audience on hand, unfortunately there was only three contestants which meant that they all qualified through but still had to sing.

 

The songs and order in which they performed were:

 

Lucy – Call My Name – Charlotte Church

Steve – Part Time Love  -Will Young

Gemma – Torn – Natalie Imbruglia

 

With all three already qualified there is no judges decision.

Heat 3

 

The final heat of the Mill Idol competition took place on Wednesday 7th October and once again we were not disappointed. A large bumper crowd on hand and a large entry of six singers guaranteed a superb night was to be had. The judges on the night were Gary, Julie and Andrea and again were judging the acts on Presentation, Vocal Talent and Star Quality.

 

The Acts and their songs were:

 

Emma – The Greatest Love Of All – Whitney Houston

Freya – Warwick Avenue – Duffy

Laura – Never Ever – All Saints

Phoebe – Own Material

Frank – Sweet Carloine – Neil Diamond

Soulla – If I Ain’t Got You – Alicia Keys

 

For the first time, we had an original artiste playing original material semi-acoustically which made a pleasant change

 

The judges added there scores and checked them and the marks reveled that Freya, Soulla and Phoebe were the top three scorers on the night and qualified through to the final.

 

So the final now lines up like this:

These nine contestants will battle it out on Wednesday 21st October to see who will become the Mill Idol 2009 champion and go to Rock Lobster Studios and have professional photo shoot and which three will go through to Anglian Idol 2009.

Grand Final

 

The Mill Inn hosted the Grand Final of Mill Idol 2009 and once again the masses turned out to watch the spectacle that was going to take place.

 

A superb crowd and a brilliant atmosphere created the perfect backdrop for the singers and they didn’t disappoint.

 

Unfortunately one had to drop out on the night due to illness and a further three were all suffering with bad throats which made this a very interesting competition.

 

The eight singers are listed in order of their performance and also the songs they performed.

 

Charlie – Use Somebody (Kings Of Leon) & Home (Michael Buble)

 

Lucy – Can’t Fight The Moonlight (Leanne Rhimes) & I Will Survive (Gloria Gaynor)

 

Soulla – I Just Want To Make Love To You (Etta James) & Show Me Love (Robyn S)

 

Freya – Never Get You (The Noisettes) & Warwick Avenue (Duffy)

 

Nikki – You Might Need Somebody & Hurt (Christina Aguilera)

 

Pheobe – I Like Where We Are (Original Song) & One Last Time (Original Song)

 

Gemma – Material Girl (Madonna) & Valerie (Amy Winehouse)

 

Michelle – Wind Beneath My Wings (Bette Midler) & Fields Of Gold (Eva Cassidy)

 

The judges on the night were: Michael, Pat, Julie, Gary, Andrea and John

 

Again they were marking on Presentation, Vocal Talent and Star Quality/Entertainment Factor.

 

On the night, all acts performed extremely well and to be honest all acts deserved to get in the top three and it was fantastic entertainment so well done to all acts on that front.

 

The judges delivered the verdict of the top 3 as:

2nd – Nikki

1st – Soulla

 

Well done to Victoria and the top three. These three will be representing the Crown at Anglian Idol 2009 in Hopton on 27th November 2009. Good luck and well done to all three.
